As a student of women’s 和 gender studies, you will gain a profound underst和ing of how to influence ongoing 政治和 economic inequalities. You’ll explore how media 和市场营销 construct women 和 disempowered bodies in manipulative ways as you learn that feminism is about addressing institutionalized inequality for all people. Course Spotlight: Women’s 领导 in the 21st Century

Chatham’s Women’s 领导 in the 21st Century course is an interdisciplinary seminar that’s open to all undergraduates (who have taken one of the prerequisites), 和, according to course instructor 和 director of the Chatham University Women’s Institute, 杰西·雷米博士.D., “the jewel in the crown of our women’s leadership certificate program.”

Explore the Women's 和 Gender Studies Degree:

The major in women’s 和 gender studies offers students the opportunity for the interdisciplinary study of women’s contributions to society 和 women’s experiences in diverse cultures, 政治, 和 historical periods. Students seek to underst和 the new scholarship on women 和 the new intellectual frameworks, 方法, 和 feminist theories that examine gender as a social construct.

The interdisciplinary curriculum touches on many different topics through the lens of gender issues, which makes this program a good complement to most other majors, including psychology, 英语, 政治科学, 业务, 和市场营销.
Students benefit from the 资源 of the Chatham University Women’s Institute, which provides opportunities, including programming, a certificate in women’s leadership, involvement in community initiatives, 和 a women’s leadership living-learning community.
The Women’s Institute offers small grants to support students’ gender-related 研究和 creative projects, as well as support for presenting these projects at conferences.
Co-sponsored by the Women’s Institute 和 screened on campus, 只是电影 is an annual series that shows documentaries focused on gender equity 和 social justice, often being shown in Pittsburgh for the first time.

酷儿理论 is for everybody. We explore how gender 和 sexual identities intersect with race, class 和 ethnicity by examining the cultural representations of lesbian, 同性恋, 双性恋, 和 transgender people in literature, 电影, history 和 social movements. Students will also become conversant with the arguments 和 critical terms used in the field of queer theory.

Social Welfare: Women And Policy

This course is designed to examine current issues 和 policies that impact the lives of women 和 to explore methods of creating or modifying policies. This course will use a comparative policy framework to explore the strengths 和 weaknesses of current interventions regarding their promotion of social 和 economic justice.

女权主义理论

This course is designed to provide students with a critical introduction to the historical development 和 current controversies of feminist theory including global feminism 和 women’s bodies as a site of contestation. It includes a comprehensive summary of the diverse 和 interdisciplinary philosophical strains that make up the intellectual heritage of modern feminism.

Partnerships in the Region

Chatham is home to the Center for Women’s Entrepreneurship, Pennsylvania Center for Women 和 Politics, 和 the Women’s 业务 Center. These centers sponsor programs for students, such as NEW (National Education for Women’s) 领导 Pennsylvania™, an 教育al program for young women to learn how to be active citizens 和 how to influence public policy.

Chatham University has been recognized as the newest chapter (Zeta Zeta) of the National Women's & Gender Studies Honor Society, Iota Iota Iota (a.k.a. Triota).
